Hello all. My name is D. Initi and I have been tye dyeing silk for the past eight months. I am also a Shibori artist. Most of my technique uses a radial fold technique to create the mandalas and spirals that you see. The silk dyes that I use are Jaquard silk acid dyes in Flourescent yellow, chartreuse, brilliant blue, fuschia, bright kelly green and turq. The skulls and more intricate work use a shibori sewing technique where the outlined shape is sewn using a basting stitch, pulled taught to create the pleats and then dyed. All of the pieces are dyed using a solution of dye and vinegar then heated in a microwave oven. All are weighted pairs of flags used in flag dancing. All colors noted "pop" under black light and create eerie effects when spun under black light. I hope you enjoy my work. Thank you.
