I started ordering materials for my batik artwork from Dharma when I lived I Washington, DC. After I moved to the Bay Area in 2002, I happened to be biking thru San Rafael, and was happily surprised to come across the actual store! Now I use the brick&mortar shopping method, where I use the fiber reactive dyes, wax and detergent in my artwork.

Batik is about the process - the colors bleed, the wax drips, lines are missed and the dyes spill- but I do not believe there are mistakes in batik, and the results can be wonderfully erratic and fascinating as each design unfolds. I realize there will be inevitable abstractions, and I encourage the random results by using different pairings of dyes, paraffins, and fabrics. I find that this challenge of batik matches my personality and style. I enjoy creating scenes rich in detail, filled with movement and vibrant colors but without an emphasis on precision.
