We are two sisters living on a small farm in Southern Oregon in the
foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range and at the headwaters of the
only un-dammed river in Oregon. We create one-of-a-kind Art Yarns and
with the yarn we weave carpets and pillows and anything else we can
think up! We get our wool from local farmers and process it at home
using low impact cleaning agents and dyes. We dye the wool after it has
been washed with Procion Dye, Jacquard Acid Dye or Jacquard Silk
Colors. The Procion dye creates more subtle tones, while the silk dye
and the acid dye give us our deep "jewel" tones. Another dying method
we use is "hand painting" the yarn after we spin it into hanks. We use
squeeze bottles with the acid dyes and "paint" the yarn. We then steam
set it and hang it to dry. The landscape that we live in, the river,
the forest and the spirit of self-reliance is what inspires our work
everyday. All the steps taken in creating our products are done by
hand.
