Well I have been painting silk for quite a while.  I got started working for a man who wanted to have ties made out of hand painted silk. I spent so long painting the silk that I was reluctant to hand over what I made for the price he was paying, so I kept a couple of the ties and made a few scarves from the silk he provided and then I was hooked and started to buy my own silk and make banners for friend's weddings and a chuppah for my brother's wedding.

The banners are quite large so I'm finding the Habotai Silk Sarongs great to work on.  Here is the one I just finished hanging in my studio in Brooklyn, N.Y. I did this one on the chiffon and the client liked the softer look of the matte finish. Here are a few more banners.  I use the Sennelier Tinfix Design - French Silk Dyes with the Sennelier French Gutta Serti - Clear and the Jacquard Dyeset Concentrate. Then I take the banner to the cleaners to remove the stickiness of the gutta. You can see me making a banner on a video on my website: www.madelinesorel.com.

All the best.  Madeline
