I got my inspiration from the great city of Osogbo in Nigeria, which is known for its art excellence. I was thinking about how I can share my experience and my culture with people in the other parts of the world that have been mislead by those people that didn't know anything about Africa. I'm not afraid to express my self politically, morally and mentally through my art mediums to the World. I was born and raised in the indigenous culture of the Yoruba people of Nigeria which enhances my ability and the strength in addressing the problem at any point in time without been afraid of what is going to come out of it.
The Osogbo artist movement began in the early 60's with a group of talented and energetic artist like Twins 77, Jimoh Buraimoh, Rufus Ogundele, to mention but a few. These aforementioned artists and the rest travel all over the European countries and in America to share their experience and their endless effort had given birth to many generations of artists in Osogbo which I was one of them. Unlike most of the young Osogbo artists, I'm not afraid to break with the past to express present day concern. While indebted to the best known first generation Osogbo artist for my initial artistic inspiration, I have, over the years, tried to develop a style all my own. Personal experience, in particular, the opportunity to travel to the United States, has made significant impact on my work.
The wisdom from my tradition is so great that elders speak of it through proverbs that one must develop the wisdom to understand. My intent is to bring Africa closer to people in a way that does not have a stigma attached to it. The Africa culture does not have to be seen in an exotic sense, it is for everyone to share the understand. Through my art-work I hope to help people understand my culture. Art is my life and I can't do without it. What about you?
