Color, different types and textures of fabric have always intrigue Suzi. Her first projects were doll clothes followed by pillows, covered boxes and garments. In 1995 Suzi began to create Traditional Quilts soon followed by Art Quilts. She finds that she likes to work in many different styles using a variety of fabrics and colors.
In 2001 Suzi discovered Fabric Collage and Marbling on fabric. These two processes have allowed Suzi to begin bringing the visions in her head to visible and touchable form. Marbling fabric has become a passion for Suzi. Most of her days are spent creating marbled fabrics. She first hand dyes her fabric, and then cuts them into to Fat Quarter or Fat Half size to be marbled. She uses a variety of Dharma Trading Co. supplies. Procion MX Dye Colors, Soda Ash Fixer, Urea, and Synthrapol to dye cotton, silk and rayon. Methocel, Alum, Dispersant and a variety of paints are used to marble on fabrics and silk scarves. Suzi loves creating new colors and marbling patterns. But the part she enjoys most is that because the marbling process involves liquids no two marbled pieces ever turn out exactly alike. Each piece is unique and has a personality all of its own.
If you want to try your hand at marbling Suzi highly recommends the "Give It A Try" starter set. That's how she got started. For inspiration she often looks to "The Ultimate Marbling Handbook" by Diane Maurer-Mathison. Suzi's advice for beginners is to relax and have fun. In marbling there are never mistakes only grand experiments.
