Product Description

Add unique pattern and texture to your cloth with five easy, inexpensive and versatile resists. A resist is a substance applied to the cloth surface that blocks the penetration of dye or paint. Once the resist is washed out, the pattern and texture are revealed.

Lisa Kerpoe demonstrates the use of five resists: oatmeal, potato dextrin, commercial water-based resists, sodium alginate paste and soy wax. Lisa provides complete information about each resist, including benefits, application techniques, tips for applying color and wash-out procedures. The DVD is packed with tips and advice based on Lisa's expertise in working with these resists. See the magic for yourself!

Mixed review: Information 5 stars. Presentation 3. Lisa knows her stuff and she is very generous with her knowledge and tells you what you need to know to get great results and start exploring. Much of what is covered was new to me and I've been through most surface design books and a class or two. She goes into great detail much of it lecture-style (stand and talk) and if you need to see a demonstration of how to mix dyes then this is your ticket. If you are experienced with the basics of surface-design-y stuff then you might want to cut to the chase and get Lisa's new book "Visual Texture on Fabric" .. which I HOPE DHARMA WILL BE CARRYING REAL SOON NOW! o)About the 3-star thing. The film quality is low-resolution and the camera angles terrible for showing examples of the cloth so you never really get a good look at the results of all these marvelous resists. Also the microphone set-up was such that you hear every rustle of her clothes. Loudly. All quite frustrating and irritating it is a testament to Lisa's talent that I have watched it twice and will refer to it again. All said I'm very glad I have this DVD. BTW: Oatmeal as resist... AWESOME. But do NOT cook it can be impossible to remove from the fabric.Check it out.
