Aluminum Acetate is used for mordanting primarily cellulose and bast fibers. It is used in combination with cellulose scour which helps prepare the fibers for dyeing. You may use percentages from 5-10% on the weight of the fiber.
When mordanting cotton or cellulose, aluminum acetate must be fixed to the fibre prior to dyeing; you may use wheat bran or calcium carbonate.
100g of Aluminum Acetate is enough to mordant 2000 grams (4.4 pounds) of fiber
Some say that Aluminum Acetate is the safest of the Aluminum salts to work with on a regular basis. And of course, all three of the Aluminum salts are safer to work with than any of the other metallic salts that are recommended as mordants.
