Product Description

Cellulose Scour is designed for use with cellulose fibers. It works on cellulose and bast fibers in combination with soda ash and heat and thoroughly cleans cellulose fibers, removing excess wax and other materials which could inhibit the takeup of dye.

100ml of Cellulose Scour can clean 1800 grams (4 pounds) of fiber

Made in: UNITED STATES (USA)
Category: Arts & Entertainment > Hobbies & Creative Arts > Crafts & Hobbies > Fibercraft & Textile Arts > Textile Art Materials > Textile Dyes

Per pound of cellulose fiber, use  5 percent (1.5 Tablespoons) of scour and 2% percent (2 teaspoons) of soda ash.  Dissolve the soda ash in hot water.

Add both ingredients to a pot large enough to contain the fibers and stir.  Add fiber and bring the heat to 180F, carefully rotating the goods in the pot.

Hold the goods at 180F for 30-45 minutes, then carefully remove and rinse the fibers.

wow-- night and day difference over here in my natural dye studio! I have been working with rayon for 2 years and have had the hardest time getting colors to absorb. There really isn't much info out there on anyone working with Rayon and natural dyes-- and what does exist is pretty conflicting-- I think I've tried just about every blog and books recipes and have had mediocre results. In regards to mordanting I was using Alum Sulfate and soda ash-- the Alum never absorbed and flaked off. I started using Alum acetate and it seemed maybe a little better-- but still yielded pale colors. THEN I got the cellulose scour and holy crap-- this crap is like an angel from heaven. I am now yielding almost the exact same range as wool and silk! Couldn't be happier!!
