Live to Dye Batik
Artist Bio / Statement
My name is Dianne Soule and I have been waxing and dying for over 30 years. I am a self-taught artist that was introduced to batik in a high school art class. I love the process of planning and thinking out a batik before I start. I love the way the hot wax flows, the vibrant colors of the dyes and the excitement of seeing the finished piece when the dyes are dry and the wax is removed.
I am inspired by vintage cars, old black and white photographs and always good vibrations in the subjects I choose to batik in my framed wall art. The crackling from the wax lends itself to make the finished pieces look like they have been around for a long time. Like someone took a favorite photo out of their pocket and smoothed it out to look at it again.
I have shown my framed batiks over the years in many galleries and always welcome commissions!
Over the last couple of years, I have also been batiking tshirts for different bands, companies, and different events and organizations and also selling them on my website and etsy shop. This has been so much fun! I love to batik anything on a tshirt but especially images that are not associated with batik, such as Einstein, Dorothy Parker, Bach, Custom Car shirts, etc.
I LOVE Dharma Trading Co.! I first want to thank the friendly and professional staff that takes my phone orders.....always first class!
I love the procion cold water dyes and the extensive range of colors available. When I have to make multiple vats of dye to take care of a large tshirt order, I know the dyed shirts will always be consistent, beautiful, colorfast and soft!
I buy all my dyes, soda ash, urea, dyer's salt, and tjantings from Dharma. Also, the price on the Bella blank shirts are very reasonable compared to other suppliers.
Thank you Dharma!
