Artist Bio / Statement
My name is Wayne Campbell. I'm a southerner, born and raised. I like camping, beer, working out, and for fun I make lighting fixtures out of rope. I got interested in lighting cuz it's 50% science and 50% art, and that works for me (I have a degree in photography and a degree in nutrition. Go figure...) I was really happy with the results I got using natural sisal rope, but I thought it would be cool to be able to add color to this. Problem was nobody sells dyed sisal rope in the lengths that I needed (about 100' - 200'). After researching it online, a ton of trial and error, and asking Dharma's customer service reps about a hundred questions (they rock by the way), I started dying my own sisal rope. And I use Dharma's Procion fiber reactive dyes to do so. I love discovering how the dyes affect the three dimensional qualities of the rope and its texture. And I couldn't be happier with the lights I've created. I'm constantly trying to find new things to do with the rope, but what I've realized is that I'm not the only person out there who needs large amounts of dyed sisal rope. In fact, selling the dyed rope itself has become my greatest demand. I supply it in 5', 25', 50' and 100' foot lengths. I get requests for custom colors all the time. Ice Blue and Charcoal are my best sellers, and Bronze does pretty well. I have Avocado, Chinese Red, Citrus Yellow, New Black, Seaglass, Bubblegum, etc....
I use several suppliers for my products, and I can say without a doubt that Dharma is the most personable and reliable, and they have fantastic customer service.
