An elegant, sheer and more loosely woven fiber with a soft beautiful drape and a crepe like texture. They float like a feather on a summer breeze! These are probably the next most popular fabric to Habotai to make scarves from. Economical as well as beautiful! Very easy to dye and paint and responds well to all painting styles and techniques. These have hand rolled hems with 100% silk thread.

We recommend, especially if you are re-selling, to pre-wash in Hot water and Synthrapol or our Professional Textile Detergent, all silk before dyeing or painting to remove any leftover residue from the silk worms (Seracin) or finger prints and other stuff that can cause the fabric to dye unevenly. Our product Milsoft is excellent for restoring the soft hand to silk after dyeing.

NOTE: Chiffon shrinks a lot because of loose weave - drying scarves while stretched helps reduce shrinkage

These are great for nuno felting with a class, no need to cut or sew anything and you don't have to spend hours rolling your felt around!

I'm surprised chiffon turned out to be my favorite. Light, inexpensive, and holds dye in a delicate way. (OK - Charmeuse is my favorite, but chiffon holds color with far more intensity than I thought it would.)

Love this scarf for felting! Please let me know when you have the 11X90 in stock again. The 14x72 are great but not quite long enough....what about a 14x90? That would be perfect!

They shrink too much. The hems are bad, not like they used to be. They're not rolled, really, more like folded and hemmed, and oftentimes the stitching comes out. Also, the sizes are not consistent throughout each piece. I.E., the width can vary by up to 1" throughout the length.

I've dyed these numerous times using both the microwave and cold batch methods. They require a lot more dye than the habotai scarves and the dye doesn't move on the surface as easily either. I imagine some of this is simply preference and understanding what you're trying to accomplish! After washing them you must hang them dry and I even stretch them as much as possible to try to return them as close to their beautiful, original light, airy state as possible - I am never able to get them as close to it as I like, therefore I dye significantly fewer of these than the habotai. Again, could just be personal preference :)

I use these all the time for teaching, as they dye readily (but don't take much dye) and dry quickly. Can't have too many floaty chiffon scarves, really.

Good for some fine needle felting/regular felting. Intersting final texture. Haven't tried dying them yet. Would purchase longer next time as they shrink up with felting process.

I like the soft draping of these scarves, though it seems a little more difficult to get the dye to bind to this material. Overall very nice quality though. The longer ones are my favorites!

The sand wash crepe de chine are gorgeous but the dyes are washed out...probably my mistake since I wanted bright colors and sand washed silk must take the dyes differently

These are lovely. I'm glad I read the other reviews to plan for the quantity of dye needed and for the "shrinkage" They get their softness back after pressing carefully.
