Hi, I used these as a summer project for myself and my 9 yr. old granddaughter. We had a wonderful time with this kit and it taught my granddaughter about the color wheel. I liked it so much I ordered more hoops and paint. I am a retired art teacher.

The colors come out really weak. I had to use my Procion dyes on the hoop instead.

Just had a class with 12 students, and used this kit for the first time. The gold gutta was horrible, too liquidy, the students just produced blobs. The gutta would have never lasted for one suncatcher. Replaced it immediately with Pebeo gold gutta, which gave very satisfactory results. The lines were more manageable. Sumi brushes: Some of the brushes came off of the bamboo stick. Some silk hoops were not properly glued. It's OK to use, but you MUST have replacement gutta, replacement sumi brushes, and replacement hoops to satisfy your students. They need to get what they pay for!

I used this for a science and technology project using ancient and modern natural dye sources. These worked perfectly to display the results!

A great kit for kids of all ages. For younger kids, just trace the circle on paper, have them make a design, and have an older child or adult trace the design onto the silk hoop with the resist. We liked this project so much, I bought a whole set for my kids' Montessori 3-6yr classroom. All ages can do it. The kids drew the picture on paper and I traced their drawings with the resist. The next week I brought them back to class and they made the most beautiful paintings with the droppers and tiny paintbrushes. I just bought another set for my kids and we made several more - flowers, turtles, leaves. Kids love the addition of salt to create a beautiful speckled/marbled look. Good quality paint and hooops. (The brush is could be better quality, the bristles fall out.)

I used this kit as a way to learn the basics of silk painting and found it excellent for the purpose. The hoops are sturdy, the silk is well stretched, and the dyes, resist and salts are of generous proportions. I have plenty left over to try other projects. The brushes are fine for this level of work: they allow for adequate control of design, and, I thought, held up well.

I haven't really tried this yet, but it looks like it will take my rudimentary silk painting a big step forward. I love the sun-sensitive feature--I will definitely try that technique. Sister says her daughter will enjoy the kit I sent her for Christmas.
