The Festival of Quilts in England is one of the world's favorite destinations for quilting and textile arts. Each year more than 25,000 quilting and textile artists and enthusiasts come from all over the world to judge and be judged by a panel of their peers in what has come to be regarded as 'the most prestigious quilting award ceremony in Europe today'.
From over 1,000 entrants, over 30 get awarded a first, second or third prize and new for 2008, there was a Best in Show award. Categories include Art Quilts, Contemporary Quilts, Traditional Quilts, Miniatures and many more. More than $50,000 in prize money is generously given by leading manufacturers of sewing, quilting and textile art supplies, educational institutions, and associations.
Our local Galli Film Studios (Produced our Silk Painting and Shibori DVDs) was selected as the film production company for the 2008 Festival of Quilts Commemorative DVD, and for coming years as well. For 2008, they assembled a wonderful cross-mix of traditional and contemporary quilting and textile artists, and ventured north of Birmingham to Yorkshire where they caught up with famous quilters Lilian Hedley, Philippa Naylor, and took a private tour of the recently opened Museum of The Quilter's Guild of the British Isles, located in a 14th Century Guild Hall in York. This DVD gives you a chance to see what some of the best quilters in the world are doing. Why is Dharma carrying this DVD? Because we are amazed with what some of these artists do with our plain fabric, dyes and paints to create their own custom fabrics for their quilts, and the rest are fantastic too. It is fun and very inspiring!
