The Opaque Colors cover underlying colors and are use-for-anything-on-anything-in-any-way-you-want fabric paints. Beautiful and versatile. Truly opaque to give great coverage on dark fabrics. Work well on denim too. The metallics are gorgeous! One of the softest (not plastic feeling) opaque/metallic paints we have tried. Hand paint with them, print with our beautiful copper tjaps, stencil, silk screen, block print or any other technique where you need a medium consistency opaque fabric paint. The metallics are wonderful for hi-lights on your dyed silks. Great as the final touch with some "complex cloth" techniques. Unlike heavier opaque paints, these sink into the fabric more and don't peel off when washed.

The other type of Setacolor, the Transparent Colors allow underlying colors to show through. These are thinner and great for the Serti Technique on silk, tie-dye, spray bottle effects, batik, splatter techniques, and sun-painting (heliographic art).



Setacolor can also be used as silk screening silk when thickened with 2% to 5% thickener.

Drying: Air dry for at least 1 hour before heat fixing.
Fixing: Three possibilities : with an iron (cotton position), for 5 minutes, on the reverse side of the fabric; in the oven, for 5 minutes at 300°F (300°C) (stabilized temperature), or curing for several days after mixing in our No Heat Fixative.
Caring: after fixing, the colors resist machine washing at 40°C (100°F) and dry cleaning.

OTHER STUFF:

  • Lightening Medium is used to lighten Setacolor Paints without making them thinner.
  • Thickener is used to to thicken Setacolor Flowable Fabric Paints.
  • Expandable "Puff" Medium gives you a puffy, raised effect with Setacolor Fabric Paints.
  • Finishing Gold & Silver is used to add a beautiful layer of shimmering, glittering gold or silver over the top of the underlying color.
  • "No Heat" Fixative makes your paints lightfast and washfast without heat setting.

noimage If you don't want to heat set your fabric paints then instead add a small amount (1-3%) of this fixative to your paint. Apply as usual and let sit for 5 days. Wash out excess paint as usual. Done!

noimage Gives you a puffy, raised effect with Setacolor Soleil fabric paints. Apply to fabric, paper etc. Let dry, then color with Setacolor. After 30 minutes of drying time, expand by ironing on the reverse side or by using a hair dryer or Heat Gun. Resistant to washing after fixing.

I've only used the opaque paint once and it worked very well, covering the dark colored fabric I used it on. What I really like are the pearlescent colors. They give just a touch of sheen or "pearl" tone to the fabric, it looks great!! Once heatset it washes well and retains its "glow".

I used the pearl and the opaque colors for my fist silk-painting project. I painted a 8m habotai scarf, and while the colors were very beautiful, it had a very stiff "feel," almost like ripstop. I do not know if this is because I put too much paint on the scarf, or if the silk was just too light weight. In any case, pretty colors, very wash-fast, and not a bad price... I'll continue to try them out on other fabric to see if they work.

I love this paint! Great coverage, and the pearlescent colors are beautiful, and not quite as stiff as Lumiere (which I also do love). The rich shimmer gold is my favorite. I use it for highlights on dyed silks too.

I've used them for line drawings on dark T shirts - Uffington white horse, creatures from Hieronymous Bosch etc . They work a treat and last longer then the T shirts.
Just done another one after 10 year gap and the paint is still fine!
