Product Description

Fantastic! That's all I can say. Fabric has two sides, a soft rayon pile on the face with a silk chiffon back. Can be immersion dyed or easily painted on the chiffon back side. Simple painting techniques work the best. Can be used for the Devore technique. See it elsewhere for $20 - $40 yd.

Fabric Details

  • 18% silk, 82% rayon
  • 5.4 oz per square yard
  • You can dye this with our Fiber Reactive Dyes

This velvet was thin--not like the velvet we had purchased from Dharma in the past. It was very disappointing because we were using it for arashi shibori and lost most of the pattern in our design and one of the scarves we made had a big hole in the fabric and is not usable. This velvet had worked well in the past for us but it is not what it used to be--very disappointed.

I don't know if this is only the recent batch but this velvet listing used to be quite plush. I recently had to order a swatch just to see what the difference was and it is quite a big one-- the rayon pile is shorter and more sparse. It's still a lovely velvet but too thin for my needs.

Lovely quality and MUCH cheaper than in the UK as long as you don't order so much that the shipping shoots up. Takes a while to arrive if you choose 'Bulk Airmail' which is the cheapest option but very good to see there ARE options and I'm not obliged to pay a fortune if I don't need the fabric urgently.

I love it. Silk velvet is hard to find. I am a fiber artist and silk velvet is my favorite fabric. Yours is beautiful and at a reasonable price. Thank you!

Thick Pile that will re-fluff in the washing machine and dryer. Takes dye great albeit some dyes can be tricky and streaky but the velvet texture is very camouflaging of these oopsies. I have had success using procion Dupont and acid dyes on this fabric. The pile is Rayon and the ground fabric is silk. Very drapy and ideal for bias cut and Period Historical garments. There is about 10 - 20 percent shrinkage when washed in tepid water and no heat fluff dried in a dryer. I seriously recomment prewashing prior to cutting for garments.I love to tub dye and tie dye this velvet and have even tried using the burnout velvet fluid to make my own designs (not very successful yet) But seriously at this price you can't beat it from any other competitor -- if you buy it by the bolt! My first bolt I split three ways with friends to help me afford it .... and then I came back for more!
