Product Description
Idye color remover removes color. Surprise, surprise, surprise! That's right, we are all about the unexpected around here. Use this little packet of color remover to remove color, lighten color, or brighten whites. It's like a bleach, but not. It contains Thiourea Dioxide, a color removing agent which is safe to use on silks, unlike chlorine bleach. In fact you can use it on a plethora of fabrics! It takes out iDye, and you can test it on other dyes as well. One small packet of iDye color remover will treat 2-3 pounds of fabric.
FIVE SIMPLE STEPS:
1. Fill a stainless steel, aluminum, or enamel pot with just enough water for the fabric to move freely. Turn on a medium to high heat.
2. Add the iDye Color Remover soluble packet to water and stir.
3. Add garments and raise temperature. For cotton, wool and silk bring temperature to just below a simmer. For polyester bring to just below a boil.
4. Maintain temperature and stir frequently for 10 to 20 minutes, or until color has left as desired.
5. Wash the garment with a mild detergent and dry.

I used two packages on less than a half pound of spun wool and followed the directions and though it removed the colors that it had been dyed, the basic color came out a yucky green overall.

Works really well-- I even was able to use the same batch twice in qiuck succession. Left my silk as white as it was before my botched first dyeing job.

This product will have a variable result depending on what dye was originally used on your fabric. I have used this product on two separate occasions on cashmere/silk Chan Luu scarves on the stove top with different results. The first one was orange and dark brown ombre and this removed almost all of the color - the orange became the palest shade of pink and the dark brown pale lilac. I just used this again on an APRICOT colored one and I finally lost patience with it after 30 minutes on the stove top. It never turned lighter than a regular powder pink - unfortunately, I had hoped to redye an ecru color with iDye; the final result, a light warm tan is nice but not what I had hoped...It is easy to use though, and the smell, which is like a hair permanent smell, isn't the worst.

Completely removed the cream color from a 100% cotton t-shirt so it is now white. Took probably 90% of the dark brown color from a linen/rayon dress. However with the dress, the thread stayed dark brown and in some areas where the fabric had been double or triple layered, less color was removed. My plan all along was to redye it to a lighter khaki color so hopefully the contrast thread looks okay. I left both items in the solution for 40 minutes and stirred most of the time.

I used four packets on a wool dress that I wanted to re-dye. It barely took out any of the color.

It failed to remove any color at all from my habotai silk scarf, but removed factory-dyed brown from stretchy poly laces.

It was my first time using this product, so may be I`m not right, but it looks like you have to stir really ALL THE TIME - that is all 20 minutes or more...
I was coming to stir every few minutes, and I reckon that`s why color was leaving in an uneven fashion - so I wasn`t able to get my laces lightened, they became of even color only when turned light blue...
So, well, it`s so cheap it`s not a big deal to try it out, just bear in mind it can fail so dramatically, that you probably should order some other products for your cause as well.

I read the instructions and I was hoping for better results with removing color from wool. It didn't change the color at all

We had pants with stray dye on them and needed to use them for the ballet that I am costumer for. It came right out and we owned a new pair of dance pants
