Jacquard iDye Fixative Instructions

iDye Fixative can be used on most 100% natural fabrics (silk, cotton, linen, rayon). Not for synthetic fabrics.
One 3 fl oz jar treats up to 9-18 lbs. of fabric.
FOR BEST RESULTS:
Prewash garment to remove any sizings, softeners or finishes. While iDye Fixative will aid in washfastness, it is recommended to launder dyed fabrics in cold water with like colors.
FIVE SIMPLE STEPS FOR GREAT RESULTS:
1. Dye garments with iDye according to iDye instructions.
2. Rinse excess dye out of garment with additional wash cycle, in cold water.
3. Fill washing machine with just enough warm water for the fabric to move freely.
4. Add 1-2 tablespoons of iDye Fixative per 3 pounds of dry weight fabric, agitate to mix, then add damp fabric.
5. Run the garment through wash cycle.
AN ALTERNATE METHOD:
1. Dye garments with iDye according to iDye instructions.
2. Rinse excess dye out of garment with additional wash cycle, in cold water.
3. Fill bucket or tub with enough warm water to cover fabric.
4. Add 1-2 tablespoons of iDye Fixative per 3 pounds of dry weight fabric, agitate to mix, then add damp fabric.
5. Soak for at least 15 minutes. Agitate frequently to ensure even absorption of iDye Fixative.
6. Rinse garment.
iDye Fixative is a cationic polymer used as a post dye treatment. For use with natural fibers (cottons, linens, rayon, hemp, etc., and silk and animal fibers). iDye Fixative increases wash fastness, stops bleeding, and helps prevent back staining. iDye Fixative can also be used with other negatively charged dyes such as Procion MX, Concentrated Vinyl Sulphon, Remazol dyes, and commercially dyed fabrics that may bleed due to incorrect fixing.

I've never used anything like this product so all I can say is it was suggested to use when dying with the iDye. I do know that when I washed the items for the first time after dying there was no black water in the washer from the dye coming out of the clothing. That is the purpose for this product so I'd say it worked very well. When I've dyed clothing with regular rit dye it always bleeds some of the color in the wash water. My wash and rinse water with iDye Black had no bleeding out at all.

iDye is super easy to use with no hassle whatsoever. We dyed our Ikea sofa covers with the navy dye and they came out great. The fabric was already a turquoise blue and now it has deep blue over-dyed look. There was no problem using our front load washer we just put everything in at the beginning of the cycle and let it go. Afterward we ran one empty cycle to rinse the machine and there was no more dye left. We used the Jacquard iDye Fixative as well and there is no offset of dye onto our clothes which is pretty important for a couch! I will definitely be using this dye again.

Stained fabric (with poor results) and then washed one load with fixative and one load without. Dye ran equally in each load. Have washed twice since with same results. Very poor product.
