Inkjet Opaque Transfer Paper Instructions

You will need the following items:

• A pre washed and dried dark colored T-shirt (Pre-washing is recommended for both 100% cotton and 50/50 shirts so that maximum shrinkage is achieved before applying the transfer).
• A hard flat surface - like a counter top (Do not use a glass or metal surface. An ironing board is not recommended.)
• An iron (emptied of all water and preheated for at least 8 minutes on the cotton setting).
• Or - best -a preheated commercial heat press.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

• Image the Jet Opaque in your ink jet printer by printing on the side without the lines.
• DO NOT FLIP OR REVERSE IMAGE. Select a printer setting that will not use extremely high levels of ink (i.e. plain paper). After the image is printed make sure that it is completely dry prior to transferring.

FOR HAND IRONING
Lay the T-shirt on the work surface and preheat it with the iron to remove excess moisture and remove wrinkles. Allow the fabric to cool completely. Trim the image if necessary. Carefully remove and discard the paper backer (side with the lines) from the Jet Opaque. Put the image face up on the T-shirt. Lay the lightweight ironing sheet over the surface of the transfer. Using firm pressure (make yourself into a human heat press), slide the iron up and down, keep iron moving constantly. Make sure to cover the edges of the image completely. For full size sheet iron 1 1/2 minutes. For 1/2 sheet iron 45 seconds - 1 minute. Allow the shirt to cool completely and remove the ironing sheet. Save the ironing sheet as it is reusable on both sides. For 50/50 shirts, full size sheets - wool setting. 1 1/2 minutes medium-heavy pressure.

FOR HEAT PRESS APPLICATION
Preheat the heat press to 325°F. (For 50/50 shirts 300°F, medium to heavy, 10-15 seconds.) Image the Jet Opaque in your ink jet printer by printing on the side without the lines. Select a printer setting that will not use extremely high levels of ink (i.e. plain paper). After the image is printed make sure that it is completely dry prior to transferring.

Preheat the heat press to remove excess moisture and wrinkles. Allow it to cool completely. Trim the image if necessary. Carefully remove and discard the paper backer (the side with the lines) from the Jet Opaque. Put the image face up on the T-shirt. Lay the lightweight ironing sheet over the surface of the transfer. Press 300°F for 15 seconds using medium pressure. Allow the shirt to cool completely and remove the ironing sheet. Save the ironing sheet as it is reusable on both sides. For 50/50 shirts, full size sheets - wool setting , 1 1/2 minutes, medium-heavy pressure.

LAUNDRY INSTRUCTIONS
Turn the garment inside out before laundering. Wash in warm or cold water (warm water preferred), gentle cycle, using a gentle detergent. AVOID BLEACH OR BLEACH ALTERNATIVE DETERGENTS. Tumble dry on low or medium setting with shirt turned inside out. Dry immediately after washing to prevent color bleeding.

TIPS

1. If you start to see the color of the shirt coming through the transfer, you have ironed the transfer too long or the iron is too hot. Try reducing the setting of the iron first to see if this will correct the problem. (Due to the differences in irons the temperature setting for cotton can vary greatly depending on the specific iron.) If using a heat press and this problem occurs, try the following: 1. Reduce pressure or 2. Reduce temperature or 3. Reduce time.
2. To preserve the image for the longest time, save the reusable ironing sheet and lightly touch up the image for about 5-10 seconds after each washing. Remember to allow the ironing sheet to cool prior to removing.
3. We recommend washing these as above a day after doing the transfer, or definitely before wearing in the rain to prevent any "excess" ink from running.

STORAGE (Important)

Store the paper flat in a cool, dry, dark place in it's plastic bag, sealed. Paper is usually good for about 6 months except in very humid conditions.
