Product Description

A little while back we sent out a message to our customers that have purchased veils recently, asking what other sizes and styles of veil might be good for us to carry. We received a TON of responses! So, first, thank you very much to all of you who took the time to send in your ideas and suggestions, they are all very much appreciated.

Although we couldn't possibly carry through every suggestion, we have increased our selection of veils to incorporate the most frequent of your requests. That means, we are now stocking veils in both a very sheer 5mm weight and this slightly heavier 8mm, there is a new 5mm size for the taller dancers - 45" x 144", and we added a Triangular Fringed Shawl (similar to our #SFS44, but cut diagonally) for the hips (sounds like a medieval battle cry, "FOR THE HIPS!!").

All are made with rolled hems hand sewn with silk thread for even dyeing. Dye & paint them, spin & twirl them, whatever! Dance the night away on silken wings!

Here are some examples of dyed silk veils by Dharma Trading Co. Featured Artist David Ludwig.

I wound up using it as of all things a curtain in a particularly odd-size window. It's perfect and floats just a bit when the window's open and keeps the high school kids from seeing in my window when I forget my pyjama pants. (It was also a great first dyeing project for me it doesn't really match my wardrobe but does match my decor by coincidence.) Anyway just thought I'd mention that unorthodox usage. Lovely fabric and lovely result!

The veils are a perfect weight for dancing anywhere there's a breeze. They take the dyes beautifully. The only way to make them better would be for them to be free but I won't push my luck!

The semi-circle is great on it's own but I wanted to make Isis wings with it and it is too short. Wish it came 55" or longer.

Nice quality silk and hem but 3 things I wish you'd address:1. dancers want 3 yard veils so they need to be 3 yards after shrinkage not before. You need to make them 6" longer to allow for shrinkage.2. A 3 yard true half circle veil needs to be 54" wide. 3 yard x 45" is not a half circle. They move differently when doing barrel turns and such and you can't use these half ellipses as wings.3. The most popular silk weight among belly dancers is 6 mm habotai which you don't carry. Please trust me on this. I've sold thousands of veils and 90% of my sales are 6 mm silk.

I use the 45 by 108 as an x-large Sarong. My larger customers love them because they are long enough to tie behind the neck. Star center and Shibori ends done in acid dye look awesome!

I ordered the 45 x 104 semi circle and it really is a true half-circle instead of the more common rectangle-with-two-rounded -corners. They move nicely for fast dancing veil work. I am already thinking of ordering another set to make a pair of Isis Wings.
