Synthrapol works best with HOT water, yes, HOT water!
Prewashing in Synthrapol helps remove invisible lubricants, fingerprints, dirt, oil, silk worm gum and other impurities that can interfere with the dye and cause uneven dyeing. It is especially important for tub dyeing where you want an even consistant dye job. Not pre-washing is one of the biggest causes of a "splotchy" result. Even PFD (prepared for dyeing) fabrics, yarns and clothing should be pre-washed! We never recommend skipping this step, especially with all the imported fabrics and clothing these days. Synthrapol as the afterwash keeps loose dye particles of dye in suspension so they don't stain other areas of the fabric. So for tie-dyers, batik artists and printers: this helps white and lighter colored areas from being stained in the final wash by the excess dye. We get calls all the time about "muddy tie-dyes" - the secret is in the Synthrapol! (Also in the procedure for rinsing out the excess first!) Use 1/4 cup (2 oz) of Synthrapol per washing machine load for cotton, Rayon, hemp, etc. and 1/8 cup (1 oz) for silks or front loading wash machines. Some folks say you can get away with less, but it depends on what you are doing, the hardness of your water, etc. Our special new Low Foam Synthrapol is better for those front loading washing machines. Used it to wash projects after wax removing (to get rid of excess of dye) and also to get rid of the wax itself. The nice method to remove the wax for me is ironing through the paper and then boiling with a bit of Synthrapol - the wax goes to the top of water and the remaining portion gets to the surface of the clothes - so you can just hand wash it closely (it behaves like dirt and not like wax at this point), rinse it nicely and I did the second boil with Synthrapol after that - the wax is completely removed then (when I tried it without ironing and Synthrapol it was much worse)

this is a must have for good tie dye, it keeps the dyes suspended in the water and prevents back staining. Also a good stain remover for regular clothes.

I wish they'd have put warnings on the site that pregnant women shouldn't use this detergent. The results were very good, although my husband had to put in the detergent and check the loads.

I like this product. I used this and it is concentrated so it goes a long way. You do not have to use too much, and It makes the silk soft after drying and it gets the loose dye that is left ( that might bleed). It gets that out.

This stuff smells pretty strong so be sure you have good ventilation. I bought the low suds variety and would HATE to see how much the other kind sudses up because the low-suds types seems pretty soapy to me...

I guess it did it's job. I pre-washed and post-washed my tie-dye. Haven't had any issues with dye affecting my laundry!

shirts are still running onto other clothes in the wash. Must wash tie dyed shirts separately

The undyed sections of my clothing items are a beautiful bright white, despite having needed 5 or so washes to get all the extra dye out. So it works.

I wish they'd have put warnings on the site that pregnant women shouldn't use this detergent. The results were very good, although my husband had to put in the detergent and check the loads.

Works like it should - I would not think of dying without it but I hate the smell. It is thickish and easy to pour a small amount.

First time ordering this. I think it helped keep the colors suspended for the tye dying cotton and silk that I've been doing. Will be using more in the future and we'll see how it does vs. the the unscented All Free & Clear that I had been using...
