I just can not get enough pressure with an iron and in the transfer it gets crackly which ruins the puzzle. Any suggestions?

The finished product turned out well. The instructions weren't clear about which side of the puzzle takes the transfer image - I made an educated guess which turned out right. Also hints for separating the pieces?

The transfer worked great but ... the jigsaw puzzle is not good quality and was not cut cleanly through to the back paper layer of the lightweight cardboard. Even with great care the tabs tear on the back side as you take them apart: I used a razor blade to precut many pieces and I had to glue the layers on many tabs. Looks OK but not great. Too tedious for the end result!
