Silk Jewelry with Rolled Cord
Jewelry makers love our Rolled Silk Cord for hanging their work, but the cord can be the jewelry on its own. Here are a few fun ways to make your own silk jewelry for unique styles.
Jewelry makers love our Rolled Silk Cord for hanging their work, but the cord can be the jewelry on its own. Here are a few fun ways to make your own silk jewelry for unique styles.

Cut various lengths of the silk cord: how long depends on what you want to make, but we did 6x the length around our wrist to have plenty for the woven bracelet. It's fun to dye up a bunch of colors and just have them ready to play with when you fancy a quick project.
To dye the rainbow we used six cups and mixed a basic rainbow with the Jacquard Green Label primary colors. One length of cord was added to each cup. We allowed the dye to just wick up the cord.

Each dyed cord was then soaked in the Dye-Set Fixative per the directions. You don't have to change the Dye-Set out for every color, but it's good to soak them from lightest to darkest color to avoid any back staining.

We also did some space dyed cord lengths. The cord was just painted with the dyes and again set with the Dye Set Fixative.

The bracelet was woven just like those friendship bracelets we used to make as kids.

Tape all the strands in a line to a table, or use a clipboard to clamp them and work in your lap.

Pick a side to start on and wrap the end strand around the one next to it, over, under and through.

Work across all the strands, then go back to the side you started on and the next color; repeat with each color.

You can work from right to left or left to right. We alternated to create the zig zag effect. Use this to make belts, fancy pet collars and more. Look up fancier weaves to create different looks; you are limited only by your imagination.

Another easy-peasy project! We are calling this piece Ode to Pele. For this one we space dyed the cord with the dyes, set it, washed it and let it dry overnight.
Remove the insert from the finding, and using the Jacquard Lumiere 3D Clear, lightly and thoroughly coat the surface of the insert.
We found starting the spiral in our fingers, curling the cord âround and âround between thumb and first finger the best way to start. Once it was about an inch in diameter we carefully placed it on the center of the finding insert. Continue to spiral the cord around until you've covered the entire insert.
Snip the cord at an angle, add a bit of the glue to the end and press it against the spiral. Let dry!
You can call the piece finished or, as we did, add a few crystals. Simply place them as you like and with the trusty Hot Fix Tool make them a permanent part of your beautiful new jewelry!
