Alexandra Sanders
My name is Alexandra Karnbach Sanders, and I reside in Santa Cruz, California. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from San Jose State University, where I was introduced to batik, which has become a passion of mine. My subject matter is primarily birds, Yosemite landscapes, and women. I have a very detailed/decorative style that requires very fine tipped tjantings. I use straight beeswax, always have, and I seem to get great crackle. My silk and cotton are from Dharma. I use the Jacquard Silk Colors (Green Label) for direct dye application on silk, and Procion dyes in vats for traditional batik on cotton. I started taking photos of my work and printing them on Dharma's paper backed silk (that can be run through the printer). This has been a wonderful way of reproducing my work in a way that keeps the designs alive and the quality fabulous.
