Amelie Koning
Amelie has a degree in Fine Arts from The Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, The Netherlands, and has been painting on silk for almost 30 years. Her business, Amelie Handpainted Silks, has been growing over the years, and in 1999 her website, www.ameliesilks.com, was established. Lately she has been getting some interesting commissions, including one to paint 30 scarves to go with uniforms for a new Convention Centre in Virginia, as well as a special commission to make scarves for a wedding in Northern Ontario. This is for the bridesmaids who are all having a different colour scarf that is very long in lightweight silk scarves painted so that there is a strong colour at the neck, fading into a very soft tone towards the ends.
Last year she made six panels of five feet each for a dental office in Seattle, U.S.A.
Her paintings, some of which can be seen at www.ameliesilks.com, have been juried to be shown at the Florence Biennale in Italy in November this year.
She uses many of Dharma Trading's silk items like scarves, sarongs, capes, crepe de chine on the bolt, and silk shorts for her creations.
