I am a creative soul affected emotionally by colour and light. My passion is to express those emotions and thoughts through my visions onto different types of silk that I order exclusively from Dharma Trading. With Sennelier's Tinfix French silk dyes, aqua gutta, thickener, and Jacquard resists, I am able to achieve wonderful images and scenes.

I worked in watercolour and acrylic for over 30 years. After taking a Painting on Silk seminar with Judy Simmons, a nationally recognized fiber artist and author, I have been painting on silk for the past three years. I paint birds, flowers, leaves, and plants native to the Americas. I especially enjoy painting landscapes filled with cacti of all types while in dramatic full bloom against the desert earth and brilliant sky. The screen of these beautiful creations truly adds to the colours, and a particular "union" happens.

All these plants speak to me, calling forth a need to record their energies and forms using silk dyes. I love the challenge of lights and darks -- chiaroscuro, the vitality of contrasting colour and shapes: open restful spaces -- all of which allow me the opportunity to design a beautiful scene, a story that remains alive!

Often I paint from my own photographs taken while traveling throughout the country. After studying each flower, leaf, and plant, I make a watercolour sketch. I may rearrange the composition to create a more pleasing symmetry and colour balance for the size I have chosen for my painting. Then the real fun begins!

My talent, experience, and focus, combined with a love of the outdoors, flowers, leaves, and a variety of landscapes, produce the wearable art that many of my customers appreciate and own.
