Charr Crail

My name is Charr Crail, and I am a California-based professional photographer who has been in the business for over 20 years. About two years ago I was searching for something different, creative, and fun to do, and found a book on silk painting. Since then, silk painting has become my new passion. It is by far one of the most satisfying art forms I have ever had the pleasure to be involved in, and I have done A LOT of different things!

I primarily work on silk scarves -- the silk satin and charmeuse being my favorites. I have found the Jacquard Green label silk paints to be the easiest and most time-efficient products for me to use. I feel that the colors are vibrant and the steam-setting process is less time consuming. Occasionally I have used my photographs as the subjects for my silk paintings. I love being able to combine both of my passions and take the images into a new and less literal realm.

Next, I took on the joy of marbling on fabric, which is an amazingly cool, but labor-intensive endeavor. Regarding products, I by far prefer the Dr. Martins Spectralite paints. The colors are bright, clean, and the black is really black.

I am now selling the work, doing craft shows, and having a blast.
