Christine Lukowitsch

My name is Christine, and my medium is color. A Registered Nurse by day, I fell in love with fabric dyeing because it marries art and science to create beauty. If there's a limit to what can be done with Procion MX dyes, I've yet to find it, but the process so far has been an adventure!
I create hand-dyed clothing, accessories, and fabric. In addition to t-shirts from infant to 3XL, I offer an evolving selection of quilting fabric, hemp and cotton cord, baby onesies and dog clothing.
My primary creative inspiration is nature and, by extension, mathematics. Golden ratio? Fibonacci sequence? It's all right there in the most basic rainbow spiral. Fold in squares or at angles, and watch geometry work her magic. Add color, and the possibilities are endless.
As an avid gardener, my summer palettes are often inspired by flowers, fruit and foliage. My art is inspired by the four beautiful seasons here in North Carolina, each with its own richness of texture and hue. I also count as an inspiration the newly-returned Charlotte Hornets, team colors purple and teal.
In addition to Procion MX fiber reactive dyes, I'm a big fan of Dharma's dyeables. My very first show sale was a pair of triangle bandanas purchased from Dharma Trading. They take color and fabric paint beautifully to create all sorts of cool effects, and look great on people or pups! This year I'm adding socks and shoelaces to my back-to-school line, and Dharma Trading is my go-to supplier.
