Craft Mouse

I have been an artist since childhood. My first love was drawing in charcoal, and as I grew older, I began to paint and try other mediums.

In 1990, I was chosen to be part of a group of only twenty artists out of over 2000 applicants to attend a special arts program sponsored by the state governor's office. And the following year at a juried art show, I received a Best of Show award for an encaustic piece, as well as winning a 2nd place ribbon for fiber sculpture, two first place awards for drawings, and a third place award for a watercolor piece.

I attended Henderson State University on scholarship, double majoring in visual arts and theatre arts, with a minor in film. I received my graphic design degree from the University of Arkansas and have had a varied career in marketing and web design since. I currently work for a daily newspaper as their page designer and newsroom graphic artist.

I have always enjoyed arts and crafts, and sewing as well. This year, after much cajoling by family members and friends, I finally started my own business featuring my work. My 12-year-old son named the enterprise Craft Mouse.

In May, I officially opened my business and have been using Dharma Trading Company products from the very start. I use fiber reactive procion dyes, with soda ash fixer, along with Synthrapol, and Milsoft. I also use FabricMate Permanent Fabric Pens for some detail work, Lumiere And Neopaque paints for stamping, stenciling and hand painting, and several other Dharma products to complete my designs. I also use many of Dharma's blanks, such as a variety of children's clothing, silk scarves, devore satin scarves and shawls, silk velvet scarves, and other silk, cotton or rayon fabrics which I paint, tie-dye, or vat dye. My designs span from habotai veils to t-shirts and baby rompers and dresses, to hand woven cotton shawls, silk sarongs and other apparel.

In everything from children's wear to adult clothing, I try to offer unique and interesting designs, and even recently began to design my own silk screen designs using Versatex silk screen ink, and combine my love of sewing with my fabric arts, hand dyeing fabric to use in skirts and children's wear.

I am constantly looking for new and exciting ways to create unique fashions and gifts.
