Hello all. My name is D. Initi, and I have been tie-dyeing silk for the past eight months. I am also a Shibori artist. Most of my technique uses a radial fold technique to create the mandalas and spirals that you see. The silk dyes that I use are Jacquard silk acid dyes in fluorescent yellow, chartreuse, brilliant blue, fuschia, bright kelly green, and turquoise. The skulls and more intricate work use a shibori sewing technique, in which the outlined shape is sewn using a basting stitch, pulled taught to create the pleats, and then dyed. All of the pieces are dyed using a solution of dye and vinegar, then heated in a microwave oven. All are weighted pairs of flags used in flag dancing. All colors noted "pop" under blacklight and create eerie effects when spun under blacklight. I hope you enjoy my work. Thank you.
