I'm a largely self-taught art quilter. Although I began as a traditional quilter, that didn't last long because I kept asking "What if I did this?" during the quilt construction phase! My pieces have evolved into demonstrations of movement; of light/shadow and contrast.
During the last 3 years I completed a 3 piece Middle Eastern series ("Eye of the Storm", "Scattered Remains" and "The Silk Road") reflective of the shifting perspectives on this part of the world, as well as a very heavily embellished piece incorporating silks hand dyed with Dharma products that's titled "Water Water Everywhere."
I am also fascinated by the heavens and completed both a 6-piece series and an accompanying, very large wall hanging titled "Luhlin" (a recently discovered and unusual comet). All pieces utilize hand dyed materials (again with the use of Dharma products) and painted/heated Tyvek (paints from Dharma).
Finally, I've begun a set of series titled "Armchair Traveler." The first set of 6 pieces was completed earlier this year, again with a focus on the Middle East and Africa. Another set of 6 in this series, focusing on several African countries, is in production at this time. Dharma products have been invaluable in helping me to create in fiber what I see in the mind's eye.
