Debra Dolsberry

Debra's primary artistic activity is painting on silk, both garments and framed art. Her subject matter for wearable art includes geometric shapes, animals, florals, shells, and sea life. She also paints and sews silk blouses, vests, and jackets, and constructs boxes covered in hand-dyed silk and filled with truffles made of silk and beads. Her work has been exhibited at the 1998 Textile show of the Olive Hyde Gallery in Fremont, California, The South Bay Fine Arts Festival, Santa Cruz Open Studios, Many Hands Galleries in Santa Cruz and Capitola, and Ashley's Fine Art in Capitola.
Debra's framed art is primarily florals and fanciful landscapes. Many of the landscapes are based on photos taken from the space shuttle, and have an other-worldly quality.
Debra starting painting on silk in 1997, and has studied with Susan Moyer, Suzanne Punch, Lalena Vann, and Evelyn Jenkins Drew. She has also taught beginning silk painting classes.
Debra works with H.Dupont Dyes on either China silk or Crepe de Chine, and uses various resists, along with salt and alcohol to achieve her designs.
