Ed Capek

My name is Ed Capek. I have been playing with Dharma's Procion dyes for about twenty years now, first with batik and more recently with direct dyeing. As far as how I do it, I soak the garments in a soda ash solution, hang them dry, sketch out a design with Dharma's disappearing markers, and slip the garment onto a plastic wrapped two-inch recycled styrofoam form. I have a shampoo bottle filled with sodium alginate thickened urea water solution, and I squirt small amounts into washed out yoghurt cups and mix small amounts of dyes with popsicle sticks. Then I paint it on. Fine detail is done with a toothpick stuffed into an ink pen handle. The clocktower, Jerry's tiger, and the gargoyle were projectascope assisted. The rest were sketched looking at a photo. Jerry and his tiger are rayon, the rest cotton.

If you want more photos let me know. This is not a business for me, but... Any questions email me at ecapek@gmail.com
