Jan Ziebol, Donna Barnitz, Betsy Tauer & Michelle Bonds

We present to you four wonderful fiber artists who share and work on each other's fabrics. Three of us work with Procion and permanent dyes. One works with permanent paints called Pebeo Setacolor. A couple times a year, we each start a yard of fabric and send it on to one of the other gals to add their own creative element. They then forward that piece on to the next so that each one receiving this fabric can contribute some enhancement. After the fabric has received some contributive “touch” from each artist, it cycles back to the originator for display. We attempt to achieve movement, depth, rich colors, appealing touches, and sometimes a theme. We have listed all the mediums that have been used in these fabrics. These collaborative art expressions come together after crossing the country from North Carolina, Colorado, New Mexico, and Minnesota. Admirers have lauded our works as “Wonders to Behold."
Donna Barnitz is a fabric dyer, painter, stamper, silk screener, and embellisher from Enchanting New Mexico! She has been working with fabric and Procion dyes for the last 20 years. This collaboration has allowed her to build on others' work and to stretch into new areas of fabric decoration.
Betsy Tauer is a mixed media artist specializing in textile art, primarily small art quilts. She has been painting and dyeing fabrics for the past several years, and has been teaching mixed media/fabric embellishment at a local quilt shop. This collaboration has allowed her to grow as an artist, explore new ideas and techniques with the other artists, and form new friendships.
Michelle Bonds is a Mixed Media and Fiber Artist who specializes in reusing materials that would normally be thrown away. She creates her own hand painted and dyed fabrics, which she uses in her art. The complex cloths created in this group have challenged her to think outside the box and focus on design principles, as one layer builds upon the next. Michelle resides in central North Carolina.
Living in Minnesota provides Jan Ziebol great opportunities to feel and live the four defining seasons. Artistic experimentation with a multitude of fibers and fabrics has been my passion. This has inspired me to express artistic creations in the dyeing, blending, painting, and altering of all kinds of fabrics, wool and silk fibers, handmade papers, and embellishments. I enjoy the art of painting on fabrics and combining multiple mediums with a goal to create that which is, “beauty and elegant."
