Jodee Hansen Fiedler

Hello! My name is Jodee Hansen Fiedler, and I have become addicted to silk painting! As a full time mom, it's a great creative outlet for me. I studied art in college and have always loved to draw and paint, but mostly have done so with watercolors and acrylics on paper and craft projects. I started painting on silk about two years ago using rubber stamps, but being an artist at heart, I wanted to experiment with my own designs. I make scarves as gifts and most recently, I've been consigning to local retail stores.

The free flowing characteristic of painting on fabric was hard to accept at first. I'm learning a few tricks about controlling the paint or just "letting it go" and seeing what happens when the colors bleed. I like to paint flowers and abstract designs while experimenting with different color variations. So many ideas in my head, so little time to dedicate to painting!

I use the Jacquard Textiles line of paints, which I find very easy to use. They mix well together and are easily thinned with water for amazing watercolor effects. I prefer the Habotai silk scarves, which are economical and smooth for detailed painting. The eyeglass cases are fun little projects as well! I've used the ladies handkerchiefs for framing because of their smaller size. I LOVE the Dharma website and get so many ideas, tips, and inspirations there. It's a great place to see what products are available, and also to read about other artists.

I'm hoping to continue learning about silk painting and experimenting with designs. I would love to start teaching others about the fun and relaxing art of silk painting too. I believe everyone is an artist just waiting to be discovered! Thanks Dharma!
