Karen French
Karen French is an image consultant, free-lance writer, and Global Nomad, presently residing in Singapore. Brought up in Dubai and having lived in Bahrain, The Netherlands and Indonesia, she takes her inspiration from the local cultures. She learnt the art of silk painting from a wonderful Indonesian lady whilst on an expatriate posting in Jakarta. Ten years after discovering, enjoying, creating, and constantly upgrading her skills, she now teaches this art form.
Originally when she started out in Jakarta, all the products used were a range from Elbesoie ordered from Paris. Now after the discovery of Dharma Trading Co., she knows this will be her 'one-stop-shop'!!
She now uses a range of dyes including Marabu and Setasilk and loves the black from Dupont. Colours, their intensity and how they set are extremely important to the look of a final piece. Backgrounds are often done with a salt or wax technique and after steaming additional touches are made with fabric pens. The options and results are endless.
