Karla Kay Benjamin

My name is Karla Kay Benjamin. My company name is Karla Kay Art. I specialize in hand painted silk and Coloring Poster Prints inspired by hand painted silk designs. I primarily make wearable art and home linens. I do frame some of my hand painted silk pieces. My history of art includes a lifelong love of the arts. I took art classes all through school. I went onto get a college degree in Fiber Arts Degree from ASU. I now live in the Pacific Northwest, just north of Seattle. I live near the coastal communities of Stanwood and Camano Island. I live just down the street from the Pillchuck Glass Studio actually. I currently work full time as an artist. I work out of my log cabin home. I keep a few horses at my home. My daughter and I often ride our horses out on the trails in the nearby Pillchuck tree farm which allows us to ride for hours out in the woods, submersing ourselves in the forest. Nature is the inspiration for my artwork.
I purchase all my hand painted silk supplies from Dharma Trading Company. I utilize your 19mm silk charmeuse almost exclusively. I currently use Tinfix dyes and Jaquard resists and gutta thinner. I use Synthrapol detergent. My silk work is steam set using a home made steamer which I made following directions from your website.
