Katherine Munro

Dakini Silks offers a quality selection of hand painted silk scarves by artist Katherine Munro. Each scarf is hand painted using Pebeo Soie dyes from France. These dyes are great because they are non-toxic and deliver intense color! I paint mainly on Habotai 100% silk scarves with hand rolled hems. I use a combination of techniques such as wet-on-wet, line building, and Serti. For the Serti technique I use a variety of guttas and resists such as Pebeo Soie Gutta, a Solvant in Black and Gold, and Presist for a waterbased-resist option.
I was born on the island of Newfoundland, Canada, and have been been a watercolor painter for the past 18 years. I studied with various Newfoundland artists and attended the Institute of Fine Arts in Taxco, Mexico for three years. I have recently switched to silk painting as my preferred medium, and my approach is a painterly one, influenced by the colors of Mexico and my meditation practice.
