Kathy Wilder-Brown

I attended the University of Tennessee with a major in fine arts before I moved to New York City. There I was a freelance artist for two different designers where I hand painted fabric for specialty clothing. I also created performance artwork for some of the local bands.
Upon returning to Knoxville, I worked as a free-lance artist painting portraits, clothing and backdrops. I returned to school taking courses at Arrowmont School for the Arts where I expanded on my experiences of painting on fabrics and interests in creating backdrops by taking different courses in natural fiber dying, silk painting, and photo fabric techniques. Arrowmont's teachers suggested Dharma Trading as a supplier that was reliable as well as affordable. So I have used Dharma Trading for many years for supplies. Dharma's staff has also answered technical questions, which has been important to me as fiber resist painting can be a tricky medium, especially for some of the very large pieces I have been commissioned to do.
Angora Frog is a business I opened in 1992 specializing in the creation of performance artwork, i.e., dance banners, flags, backdrops, and clothing. My artwork has been in performances in the United States, Australia and Israel.
Note: Angora Frog is the registered name of a 200-year-old farm we live on, however we do not have any "long haired frogs," just the remembrance of an ancestor's sense of humor.
