Madge & Me Hats
I make and sell hats and handmade flowers for men and women from a 350 sf retail atelier in San Anselmo, California (10 minutes drive from Dharma Trading). This is my 2d “passion” crafting career after a 25 year career as a public employed criminal defense attorney. I am inspired to create finely crafted hats and headwear for everyday and special events. I’m classically trained in millinery, having attended classes at the London College of Fashion. During the COVID lockdown I took several online classes in fabric flower making from milliners in the Netherlands, U.K. and Australia. Honing the craft of hat and flower making has required many hours of practice, trial and error, and patience. I am inspired by my customers’ stories and nature. The joy I feel when a customer is thrilled with my creation is immeasurable. I am fortunate Dharma Trading is nearby my shop as I use their products for both dyeing hat material and flower making. I use yards of dyeable silks and other fabrics for flower making. I use a wide range of their dye products: acid dyes, fiber reactive Procion dyes, iDye and liquid jacquard silk dyes.
