Laurie Downey

My name is Laurie Downey. I am primarily a watercolor artist (but dabble in oils from time to time) from Dana Point, CA. I exhibit in a gallery in Laguna Beach (www.lagunanorthgallery.com). I will try anything in the arts, and happened upon the Dharma website probably ten years ago. I thought it would be fun to try fiber arts.

I started with cotton clothing blanks, and dyed and stamped them. I moved on to buying silk yardage, dyeing and sewing clothes for myself. Lately, I've purchased silk pillows (unsewn) and dyed them to match existing watercolors I had painted. I use gutta resist and Jacquard silk colors as well as batik wax and procion fiber reactive dyes.

The last project I did was stamping hand-cut (from speedy stamp blocks) snowflakes in metallic gold Lumiere acrylic onto your silk habotai scarves. Very cool! I'd send a picture, but I gave them all away for Christmas presents.
