Ley Howell

My name is Ley Howell. I am a stay-at-home mom of twin 16-month-old daughters, Charlotte and Mikaylah. I enjoyed doing tie-dyes in the 80s when I was in college, and recently picked it up again when I couldn't find any tie-dyes I liked for my daughters. Many people asked me where I got my daughters' tie-dyes, and told me I should sell them; I then decided to start my own web page and see if I got any interest. I thought I would go back to work as a middle school teacher, but since my daughter Mikaylah requires daily therapy due to cerebral palsy, I needed to find something to do from home. Therefore, I make and sell personalized clothing and tie-dyes. It is fun and interesting, creative and challenging, and gives me something to do that is not "mom" related.

I recently found Dharma Trading and order all my chemicals and dyes there. I also take a catalog with me to let people choose their clothing blanks for personalization. I am inspired by the people I make clothes for and my girls; I love trying to design the perfect shirt that they will love, or that shows their personality. Also, I am inspired by the clothes themselves, almost like a sculptor. I hang the clothes on my line and look at them, and they tell me what should be painted on them, like the celtic cat and phoenix shirts.
