Maikaaloa Clarke and Douglas Epperson

Maikaaloa has been playing with tie dye since she was a teenager and introduced Doug to the craft a few years ago. Together we explored batik and fell in love with the process. A few years ago we started batiking babies' clothes and crafts. Now we are dyeing adult clothes as well. We sell our batik at craft shows and on line. Our designs are often inspired by our love of nature and our earth based spirituality.

We love the bright colors and color fastness of Procion dye. Originally we worked with the "batik wax" but found removing it was tedious. Recently we have switched to soy wax. It is so easy to work with, and even easier to remove from the fabric. The soy wax melts at a much lower temperature so it can be rinsed out in hot tap water. We use tjanting tools and brushes to apply the wax. Sodium alginate can be used to thicken the dye for painting. Thank you for including us on your website. We are excited to have something to share with you.
