Hi, I love Dharma! I consider myself more of hobbyist than an artist. I have really been able to explore my creative side with all of the wonderful Dharma products.
I have been exploring some different shibori techniques, such as pole wrapping (the dark brown scarf), clamping (the shirt), and using knots (pink/orange scarf) and string or rubber bands (the mandala and pillows). I really like the crepe de chine silk scarves for pole wrapping -- there is a great depth of color. I prefer habotai silk for some of the knotting and string, or rubber band resist techniques. I like to use the Jacquard silk dyes. I have also used the solid velvet scarves for pole wrapping, and the colors have been stunning.
I also like using the cut velvet and Devore satin scarves. I recently began experimenting with the Alter Ego dyes and really love the color combinations you can get (see turquoise and copper scarf for example).
I also have done one of your project pages, using the Setacolor metallic fabric paints to make leaf prints on black silk. They really came out great.
In my "day job," I am a psychologist, but I really enjoy silk dyeing and painting. I do sell some of my scarves at the A Gallery in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
