Nancy Goldman

I live in Southern California. I have always been interested in creating art, and I work in most mediums. I consider myself a watercolorist because that is the medium that I have practiced the longest. About two years ago, I took a one day workshop on silk painting and have been hooked since then. I love the strength of color and the graphic quality of design that is such a signature of silk painting.

I created stained glass windows for 20 years, and that background could be part of why I am so drawn to the look of silk painting. The resist acts as a barrier much like the lead did in my stained glass windows. I usually use Sennelier clear aqua gutta so that my lines remain white, but sometimes I feel the need to use the Jacquard American Gutta in black to create a painting that has the feel of a stained glass window.

I frame most of my silk paintings as art rather than using them as wearable art. I plan to start painting on the long silk cut velvet scarves soon though. My favorite fabric to use for my framed art is the silk satin because of the beautiful sheen.

The dyes that I use the most are made by Jacquard. Those are the ones that I was introduced to in the silk painting workshop. I have also recently purchased Pebeo and Dupont silk dyes.
