Patti Isaacs

I have had a love of fabric, color, and painting all my life. When I was introduced to silk dyeing, I knew I had found the perfect mix of my passions. My gardens are the biggest inspiration for my silk paintings. The dyes and the sheen of the silk are perfect for the flowers I love to paint.
I have worked with fabric dyes on silk for nearly 10 years. The excitement of applying the dye to the white silk and watching the explosion of color across the fabric has not diminished over the years. My work is done with the French Serti technique. I use silk Habotai and Charmeuse fabric with Procion dyes. The gutta resist I use is Jacquard American Gutta. My preference is the gold gutta, however I also use black and silver when needed to downplay the existence of the gutta fences. I apply the gutta using small squeeze bottles with #4 and #5 metal applicator tips. These tips apply a very fine line of gutta to the silk that does not detract from the overall painting. I use ARTY stretcher systems frames. I have the small and large systems, which are easily combined to achieve whatever size I need for a painting. I purchase my supplies from Dharma Trading, and I love the speed and accuracy in which they complete and mail out my orders.
