Phil Vasile

My name is Phil Vasile and I started making tie dyes in April of 2020. I lost my job due to an illness and my wife was working from home. Covid had just hit really hard and I desperately needed something to do. My wife suggested I study up on tie dying and start making some as a hobby. I never had luck with tie dying but I knew I needed to try a better dye and my decision to go with Dharma was THE BEST!!! Suddenly my colors were holding and I could concentrate on designs.

I’ve been part of the jam band community for years. Originally a Dead Head but more of an Allman Brothers Band fan and Dickey Betts was and still is my biggest inspiration. His song Blue Sky is what I named my business after.

Through the years I’ve discovered many many incredibly talented bands and since I am inspired by their music, lights, and just the atmosphere surrounding them it was natural that I would give away some of my shirts to my favorite artists. This has actually become my best advertising. The first shirt I ever made specifically for an artist was for Rob Houk of Aqueous (now a member of Tand).

I have now made shirts for almost every one of my favorite bands. Goose are one of the hottest bands in the country and I’ve become good friends with them because of my dyes. Michaela Davis, Dopapod, Twiddle, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong… just to name a few. All huge names in the Jam community.

I can’t even begin to tell all of the colors I use from Dharma. I have truthfully accumulated probably 75% of the colors that Dharma offers.

My go to colors are Fuscia, Chinese red, hot pink, dragon fruit, lemon yellow, daffodil, bright green, emerald green, robins egg blue, turquoise, peacock blue, cobalt, deep space, deep purple, grape, plum, red violet, amethyst.

As far as earth tones I love wasabi, shiitake mushroom, olive drab and khaki.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my profile. I hope to become a featured artist for Dharma.
