A self-taught quilt artist, I have always been captivated by the colors and the textures of cloth. What started as traditional quilting eventually grew into fabric dyeing and painting, using threads, wool roving, beads, and other surface design elements, giving rise to the art quilts I am creating today.
My first profession was social work. Clinical work with adolescents and families evolved into a stress management practice and health & wellness training. Our culture generates daily stress, and I believe everyone needs to take the time to breathe and relax regularly. In many of my quilts, I try to convey a sense of peace and serenity, and I imagine the viewer stepping into that moment.
I use many Dharma products including procion dyes and other chemicals needed for dyeing: cotton, silk, and velvet pfd fabrics; scarves; and discharge paste. I have also found the information on your website to be very helpful.
