A former Kindergarten teacher and artsy soul turns into a stay-at-home mom and realizes there is a catastrophic dearth of different children's clothing & products that are both fabulous & truly washable. I couldn't find what I was looking for, so I made it for my own kids, then started making things for friends... and The Happy Tomato was a seedling.
I make custom clothing & accessories for infants and children by hand-printing from originally carved blocks (various substances). I use Jacquard's Textile Paint, usually Neopaque & Lumiere because they're the best, softest, and most vibrant. They hold up to kids and the laundry!
All my clothing blanks come from Dharma -- I try to use the ones made by the co-ops if styles permit. The toddler dresses are awesome.
I block print, and sometimes screen print using Versatex printing ink with screens done with drawing fluid and screen filler.
I embellish my designs with hand-painting (more Lumiere) and hand-sewn trims. I will carve whatever block you can think up, or you can choose from 20+ current block designs.
