Hawaii has been my home for nearly 40 years and I am constantly inspired by this unique place...inspired to create, to contribute, and to change. I have been a visual artist since the early 1980's when my mentor, Gloria Foss, shared her knowledge with me, and which I then applied to my collages, and collage workshops i conduct. We collaborated on a book, "Paper Dyeing for Collage & Crafts", to share with other our excitement of creating art projects with hand dyed papers. I began using Dharma Fiber Reactive Dyes for the paper dyeing in 2008 and have been very pleased with this product and used it in my Jan. 2010 workshop.
In my workshops we dye a large quantity of tissues and newsprints in a team effort that results in participants taking home dozens of multicolored, patterned papers that will inspire anyone, even if they have no prior art experience, to use them in many creative ways. I laminate and layer the papers onto a hard surface to create "painterly collages" but there are endless creative projects they can be used for!
